The Mid-Summer Classic, 2016

Well, it’s summer, and at Gourley Park, that means only one thing: the Mid-Summer Classic! Here… we… go.

Here are the pods, schedules and playoff times for each division:

As with last year, both divisions this year are double-knockout, with the exception of the lowest four teams in Bud Light after the round robin stage. These four teams will play a “Consolation Playoff”. Naturally, these schedules will be posted at the park/beer garden over the weekend.

Reminders for the tournament:

– As always, we will have a beer garden set up. A reminder that in addition to cash and GP3P tokens, we are accepting MasterCards and VISAs (no debit) with a surcharge fee.

– Since we have a beer garden and permit, there is a zero tolerance policy for any alcohol outside of this designated area, especially on the benches: on a first offense, you will be ejected from the tournament. This includes “non-descript” cups on the benches. Since this would effect our ability to get permits in the future, we will take a hard line on it.

– We have umpires for the tournament. They volunteer their time for this tournament, so please respect that their judgement is final.

– And a reminder of the long-standing rule: if you are ejected from a game, you are ejected from the tournament. Period. No questions asked.

– You must have a minimum of four girls to play a game. If you have three, the fourth will be an “automatic out” and you will be forced to play with three girls and five guys. Questions on this, see Adam or Kevin.

– Our dance this year, will be at Montana’s on Upper James, beginning at 9PM on Saturday  There is no cost to enter the banquet and we’ll have plenty of prizes and food, as always.

– A reminder that smoking in public parks in the city of Hamilton is not permitted. By-law has walked around in the past, so don’t say we didn’t warn you.

– The BBQ will be open for almost the entire weekend, run by Montana’s Upper James this year.

– A reminder that ALL bats must have a GP3P sticker on them to be used in this tournament. The transfer of stickers from one bat to another is not allowed, regardless of the make and model of the bat. If you need a new sticker, come see Adam or Kevin at the tent or around the diamonds. Umpires will be instructed to not allow bats without stickers in the game.

– A second reminder that all players must be on your existing roster to be eligible for the tournament. Any disputes can be brought to the umpires’ attention.

Good luck and see you all around the park.

2016 Schedule Available

The 2015 GP3P schedule is available. For the master (league-wide schedule), you can check out the Schedule page. If you are looking for your team schedule, head over to the Teams page and choose your team.

On each Team page, there are two links: one to download the iCal version of the schedule and another to subscribe to it, so that any changes that are made to it are updated automatically on your version.

A few notes:
– the blank slots on June 19th at 11AM is a conscious choice; we have vacated these times to accommodate the Ladies League tournament

– the Mid Summer Classic and Wooden bat schedules will be released in the week(s) leading up to the tournament. Assume that you play Friday night for both. If you are unable to make the tournaments, now is the time to let us know. The deadline to pull out is July 1st. Any team pulling out after this date will be changed a $150 forfeit fee (you will be forfeiting at least three games).

– A reminder that forfeits must be reported to the other team and the league (info@gp3p.ca) at least 72 hours in advance. Failure to tell the other rep within 72 hours of game time will result in a $50 fine payable to the other team.

– the Rep List can always be found at http://gp3p.ca/rep-list.pdf . This link will always contain the latest info we have for teams.

End of Season and Thanks

As the Wooden Bat tournament comes to a close, so ends another season of GP3P baseball. Congrats to everyone on a great weekend and congrats to Snatchin’ Balls and Rattlers on their tournament wins.

As always, thanks for being a part of this great community, for helping out in every way you did throughout the year, for playing in the league, for running your own teams so well, and for well… being awesome.

On behalf of Adam and I, thanks for 2015. If you have any questions in the off-season (or during the last couple of weeks), just email us on the Contact page. See you next February for our Winter Meetings!

Wooden Bat Tournament, 2015

Welcome to the end of the GP3P season and the always awesome, Wooden Bat Tournament.

Wooden Bat Schedule

Here are the pods, schedules and playoff times for each division:

Both divisions this year are double-knockout, with the exception of the lowest eight teams in Bud Light after the round robin stage. These eight teams will play four “play-in games”; the losers of these games are knocked out of the tournament. 🙁 From that point on, it is double-knockout.

New to the Wooden Bat is the Umpire Schedule. Teams are assigned the other division’s games on Friday and Saturday and each team must supply one person to umpire their assigned game. Umpires from these teams will be paid either as $20 cash, or in 7 beer tokens. The choice is theirs. Come find Adam or I for payment after each game. We will have regulated umpires on Sunday.

Wooden bats will be supplied by GP3P and left at every diamond for use throughout the tournament. Players are welcome to bring their own bats, provided that the bats are 100% wood. This rules outs any composite two-piece bats (see: Demarini) or any hybrids.

Montana’s

GP3P will be heading to Montana’s on Upper James on Saturday night. They have been gracious enough to shut down most of the bar for us, provide a DJ and GP3P will be throwing some food onto the tables. Come out, have a drink or two and celebrate a good season!

End of Season

A reminder that since we did not have enough teams interested in playing games beyond the Wooden Bat (deadline was back in May), GP3P does not have a schedule past the Wooden Bat. If you wish to schedule your own games, GP3P owns the diamonds on Sundays until the end of September, you are welcome to do so.

As always, any questions can be sent to info@gp3p.ca.
